1. Welcome ! The time has finally come to begin to tell the story. It’s been 50 years since a professor advised me to just tell the story. So here we go.
2. Autumn, 1970: Naively, though purposely, heading out to find the missing piece….
3. Skip ahead almost a decade later when a colleague points out an article in Yankee Magazine.
4. The cover showing a painting of an ideal New England Village
5. Amazingly, after traveling around and exploring here and there find out that there is an entire village for sale literally in my back yard…. 8 miles from where I was living and working.
6. Two villages for sale and the one tucked away in a small river valley in Rhode Island, I would soon discover had most a curious history.
7. I had an immediate sense that my life would be immersed in this place for many years ahead.
8.. A friend with a small airplane helped to gain a global look.
10. Fertile pastures watered by a meandering stream…
9. In the center, a sizable industrial building, seemingly abandoned…
12. A Horseshoe shaped manmade waterfall…
11.. Some ruins…
14. Curious…
13. What was going on down there?
15. Then, having never heard of this place previously, and just as I began to try to find out what was going on, a front page headline presented a likely challenge…
16. On going events only created more questions…
18. And worse…
20. More bad news.
21. Little Village Library leaving
22. Hope to keep a Library Annex fails..
23. The historic barn in center of the village had closed its doors after years of housing a champion herd of Golden Guernsey Cows.
24. Then arson destroyed it..
25. An entire planned expansion of the village dating to 1918 was sold off in pieces.
26. A proposed nuclear power plant a few miles away was a point of discord among the locals.
27. In the end it was voted down but created much tension locally.
