Yes…Once upon a time…
There really was “Only One Shannock”…Anne Hoxie once lamented: “I’ve nothing against the mill, but I cannot feel, for the life of me, as joyous when I look at it as I used to when visualizing the oak trees and watermelons all in one rose-colored dream. Most of the dwellers here today have come since all of this happened. My Shannock is a dream time of a child. “When life was like a story …Holding neither sob nor sigh; In the olden, golden glory Of the days gone by.”

A peaceful yet industrious village….Anne Hoxie remembers: “Where the Horse Shoe Inn is now (burned in 1980), I can go no further back in memory than the days when the second story was called Clark’s Hall and the Advent Society held its preaching and Sunday School there….There was one faithful woman always in her place at the organ. She was then Miss Nellie Clark, (afterwards Mrs. Nellie Carmichael.”
